A 12 week Islamic Arts project set up for 17 families in Leicester. All made possible by the Arts Council who have been amazing! Without them, this project would not have been possible.
The project was split into 4 blocks: Islamic Geometry, Biomorphic Patterns, Calligraphy and an opportunity for them to create their own canvas using all 3 elements of Islamic art.
Weekly classes were held at DMU, thanks for the amazing support of Morgan (@_morganstockton) , Paige and Hugo!
We also had online guest artists: Samira Mian (@samira.mian) and Esra Alhamad (@islamicillumination) with inspiring classes, helping us to create further patterns. Live classes delivered by, Shazia (@createdby shazia) and Safira (@safirawrites). If all that wasn’t enough, we even took a trip to Botanic Gardens: session led by Ruth. A chance to see the comparison between the biomorphic patterns and the real-life beauty, a wonderful opportunity to create flower stencils.
The mentoring sessions by Morgan were invaluable throughout the project: they helped me to plan, organise sessions but also reflect on them and gave me an insight into how to use parent evaluations effectively.
All artwork created by students and their families will be exhibited at DMU The Gallery in Leicester from 3rd December 2022.

A huge thank you to all the students who created such amazing artwork, truly a sentiment to your own personal style and creative flair! Each one beams with all the time and love spent on it. I love them all and hope you treasure them. Well Done!
